Uberall raises $115M, acquires MomentFeed to scale up its location marketing services

Location-based services may have had their day as a salient category for hot apps or innovative tech leveraging the arrival of smartphones, but that’s largely because they are now part of the unspoken fabric of how we interact with digital services every day: We rely on location-specific information when we are on search engines, when we are using maps or weather apps, when we are taking and posting photos and more.

Still, there remain a lot of gaps in how location information links up with accurate information, and so today a company that’s made it its business to address that is announcing some funding as it scales up its service.

Uberall, which works with retailers and other brick-and-mortar operators to help them update and provide more accurate information about themselves across the plethora of apps and other services that consumers use to discover them, is announcing $115 million in funding. Alongside that, the Berlin startup is making an acquisition: it’s buying MomentFeed, a location marketing company based out of Los Angeles, to continue scaling its business.

Niantic partners with Hasbro to launch Transformers: Heavy Metal in 2021

Niantic has partnered with Hasbro on Transformers: Heavy Metal, a new augmented reality mobile game now in the works.

Transformers: Heavy Metal will allow players to battle the robots in an AR street environment, similar to Pokemon GO's raid battle system. Development is being undertaken by Seattle-based studio Very Very Spaceship, which will utilise Niantic's Lightship platform.

During an interview with Bloomberg discussing the collaboration, Niantic CEO John Hanke confirmed that the previously announced Pikmin AR and Catan: World Explorers games will release later this year. Both titles are currently in soft launch.

It was further stated that Niantic has about a dozen games in active development and it has been speaking with potential buyers about an acquisition. Namely, a conversation with Microsoft was supposedly in discussions at one point, though the latter seemed to have shown no interest in pursuing a deal (according to the Bloomberg report).

Berkshire Hathaway’s CleanMachine Said First Midstream Equipment TrustWell Certified

Project Canary provided its first TrustWell Responsibly Sourced Gas (RSG) certification for midstream equipment to Berkshire Hathaway Energy (BHE) Compression Services’ CleanMachine compressor package.

The CleanMachine minimizes methane intensity to 0.2% through the elimination of raw methane produced by traditional compressor packages. Any methane that cannot be removed is captured by the system. The system also employs Project Canary’s monitoring sensors that provide live data on raw methane emissions.

The company is set to produce RSG “with full transparency on real-time performance via Project Canary’s continuous monitoring solution, as well as a third-party verification and certification process through TrustWell,” said BHE’s Peter Strezo, vice president of technology and environmental.
