Pokemon Go developer Niantic takes two home accolades at the Pocket Gamer Mobile Games Awards

Niantic took home two accolades for Best Live Ops (Pokemon Go) and Technological Innovation (Real World Platform) at the Pocket Gamer Mobile Games Awards in association with Game Insight.

The Live Ops prize recognises the impact of significant updates, in-game events and/or excellent community management over the last year for games released in 2017 of before.

Running successful games for the long-term is a key aspect of the mobile games industry, and Pokemon Go’s consistent updates and real-world events have proven to be immensely popular. It remains one of the most played mobile titles in the world since its 2016 release.

Could a Drone Disruption Like Gatwick’s Happen at a U.S. Airport?

Two drones that went floating over a runway at Gatwick Airport outside London this week caused chaos, disrupting hundreds of flights there, and stranding tens of thousands of passengers at England’s second-largest airport and elsewhere at the peak of the holiday season.

The drone disruption raises a host of questions, but for travelers in the United States, perhaps the most pressing is this: Could it happen here?

……Luke Fox, the founder and chief executive of WhiteFox, a drone airspace security company, said drones frequently fly near airports. “Every single airport we’ve deployed our technology at, we’ve seen it happening daily,” he said. “The only difference is that they saw the drone this time.”

Being Transparent about Pay Transparency

Last week, CitiGroup — with strong encouragement from activist Natasha Lund at Arjuna Capital — offered a blunt assessment of its gender pay gap. One of the world’s largest banking groups, Citigroup revealed that its female employees earn 29% less than men performing similar work.

Meanwhile, Bloomberg — who, as a news source, covered the CitiGroup story — released a list of 230 companies committed to gender equality in the workplace. Guess who showed up on the list of companies performing well? CitiGroup.

How can a company be lauded for its advancement of women and at the same time reveal a significant gender pay gap?

Syndio Solutions’ quest for fair wages is backed by $5.2M in seed funding and big-name hires

In the U.S., women earn 82 cents on the dollar that men earn. That means in order to match the income of their male colleagues, women would need to work an extra 47 days each year.

The wage disparity has many sources, including educational level, job experience and type of work being done. But one of the drivers — gender discrimination — has no excuse, and is in fact illegal.

A Seattle-based startup working to quash unfair pay gaps is gaining steam. Syndio Solutions recently announced a $5.2 million seed round and that it had hired Smartsheet co-founder Maria Colacurcio as CEO and Rob Porcarelli, who served as Starbucks assistant general counsel for 13 years, as chief legal officer.
