Anyone can create sick beats with Blocks, a new high-tech musical instrument by Roli

London-based technology company Roli wants to change the way people make music. And its latest creation, Blocks, is unlike any instrument you've seen before.

You don't need years of lessons -- or frankly, any musical experience -- to create your own beats with Blocks. Packed into a simple 4-by-4-inch touchpad is an entire music studio, designed to be friendly enough for anyone to play, even if you're intimidated at the thought of creating your own music.

But this isn't just for musical newbies -- the system is scalable to serve as a professional tool for advanced musicians. Multiple Blocks can be attached magnetically to any of the four sides. Optional smaller control pad Block accessories have built-in buttons to change settings and build beat loops quickly during a performance.

It all starts with the Lightpad Block ($179, or £169.95). The pressure-sensitive silicone pad displays lights on a grid, with each light square representing a different note. But you don't just tap the light squares as if they were keys on a piano. The real art in a performance lies in how you press your fingers on the pad. Dragging a finger can glide between notes, bending the pitch as you slide into the next note. You'll also get different sounds depending on how long and hard you press down.

This iPad attachment will make remodeling your house way easier

A startup that makes a special sensor that integrates with Apple iPads wants to make home improvement easier for people who are more comfortable with a mouse and keyboard than with a tape measure.

Canvas, a free new app from Occipital, lets iPad users capture a scale model of any room. Once users have scanned a room, they can go back and pull any measurement from it — like how wide a window is, or exactly how tall the ceilings are.

It's pretty easy. I saw Occipital CEO Jeff Powers accurately scan a lounge at Business Insider headquarters in 30 seconds.

Bella Hadid Wears Frasier Sterling Accessories

At RZHQ, we appreciate the power of statement jewelry to totally complete an outfit. Whether it’s a gorgeous pair of hoops or a unique necklace, the addition of one well-considered accessory can make or break a look. Clearly, Bella Hadid understands this notion—the 20-year-old model posted a stunning selfie to Instagram, the splendor of her superhuman cheekbones nearly overshadowed by one dazzling choker necklace. A piece so gorgeous must cost a fortune, right? Wrong. Her navy velvet choker featuring a starburst pendant is by on-the-rise label Frasier Sterling, and costs a modest $58.

Occipital launches $500 dev kit to turn your iPhone into a room-scale tracked VR headset

For iOS or Mac users interested in VR, there isn’t a lot you can do right now without migrating to the dark sides of Android or Windows.

Occipital is aiming to get people on the iOS platform access to some more cool VR opportunities. Today, the company opened up a $500 development kit today that brings room-scale motion tracking to iOS (as well as Android) smartphones, Upload reports.

The dev kit utilizes the company’s Structure sensor. This has already been mounted to iPhones and iPads to help people build 3D meshes of their environments but this is the first attempt to give the sensor a VR-focused application. The iPhone is still a pretty imperfect platform due to system levels constraints in regards to latency, but this is the best that can be done until Apple gets its act together.
